Ex-psychotherapy sex cult leader permitted to practice again


Helen Fogarty, 73, was a leader of the Sullivan Institute for Research in Psychoanalysis, a psychotherapy sex cult on Manhattan’s Upper West Side in the 1970s and 80s. She lost her license to practice as a psychologist after her live-in babysitter, who was also her patient, filed a complaint with the state, saying Fogarty ordered her to have sex with her influential husband, Saul Newton, who founded the group in 1957. I confirmed that the state gave Fogarty permission to practice again despite an extensive disciplinary history.  Here’s the story:
